Art Enables has a great mission. The non-profit’s purpose is to create opportunities for artists with disabilities to make, market, and earn income from their artwork. We thought neighbors would be interested in some of the ways Art Enables is helping neighbors stay connected to each other and their mission.

Original Zoom Backgrounds

Need to change up your Zoom meetings? Art Enables has original Zoom backgrounds created by their resident artists that you can download. Each week they unveil new backgrounds as part of their weekly digital exhibition, “Wish You Were Here.” You can find their Zoom backgrounds here along with instructions on how to download and use them. (Art Enables images are copyrighted and are for personal use only.)

“Wish You Were Here” Mini Online Exhibitions

Obviously, we can’t enjoy Art Enables in-person exhibitions, but every few weeks they post collections that feature work by their resident artists, and 100% of the sales goes directly to the artists during the closure. Check out the series of online exhibitions here and consider supporting these artists by purchasing their work.

Call For Artists

Art Enables has put out a Call for Artists for their 14th annual exhibition highlighting the work of self-taught artists, “Outside Forces: Outsider Art Inside the Beltway.” The deadline to apply is July 15th. From an email:

This exhibition began in 2006 as a way for DC-area groups working with self-taught artists to exhibit together. Over the last 14 years, the exhibition’s success has seen it grow to feature artists from across the nation alongside our resident artists. We look forward to continuing the tradition of this show championing and promoting outsider art; however, due to social distancing efforts, this year’s exhibition will take place solely online. Free to apply. Please see full details on our website.

Sounds great. Thanks Art Enables for keeping the community engaged!
